Systems Don’t Solve Problems

We once ripped out an $80k/yr system from a company that was being used by 1 of 10 team members. The value to management required all team members participate.

Too often the “system buy” is a reaction to a problem, but it can’t fix the REAL problem.

What can systems do? Bring consistency to data capture, solve for version control, log historical data for trend analysis, and speed the ability to harness the collective data set.

What can systems NOT do? Turn 10% compliance into 100%. That’s a discipline problem.

Address the team needs and issues before making the system decision. Said differently, get buy-in before you buy!
